UNWASHED

UNWASHED

Days roll into nights. Footsteps loud

hitting the ground by the bowed

head of another man hoping for coins

or simply a smile from the crowd.

It’s no secret, though without an abode

his real wish is only to join

the visible. Those who are allowed

to be seen, to stand up proud.

No more street begging or counting bronze coins.
